Delaney's COM 212: Interpersonal Communication Website

1) Recall a situation where you possessed important information but knew that
disclosing it would be personally or relationally problematic...

-My husband and I were friends with a couple that got engaged a few
               weeks after we did
             -The girl was my roommate
-She had cheated on the guy prior to their engagement
              -The guy didn't know
-Both my husband and I knew but had to consider the outcome if we told
               him

**What did you do?

-I talked to her and told her what I thought she should do
-She did not tell him and we did not tell him
-They are getting married in May

**How did your decision impact your relationship?

             -Kept the relationship drama free
-We remained friends; she was still in my wedding she probably would not
have been if I had told
             -My respect for her depreciated
-I stopped caring about her relationship with her future husband

**Was your choice ethical?

             -Honestly, I do not know
-He deserves to know, but it was not our place to tell him

**Based on your experience, is it always cooperative to disclose important information?

             -Definitely not
-Often times it is not worth the drama it will create, especially if the
people are not worth your time.

2) Look around the room you’re in right now.

-My living room/bedroom (it's all one room, we live in a basement :) )

**How does this room make you feel?

             -At home, comfortable, relaxed

**What mood or feeling is created by the:

Size of the Space: Opening and inviting, it's a very large space

Furniture: Confusing, our bed and our living room is the same room! :) But still
                 comfortable and relaxed

Lighting: Fluorescent, makes you feel like you're in a Dr.'s office, they even make a
               buzzing sound!

Color: Taupe, very bland, comfortable and relaxing

**What does the room say to others about who you are?

-We are too poor to afford our own place
-We just got married, they can see from all of the wedding photos
-We live a comfortable and relaxed lifestyle

**How much does environmental and artifact nonverbal communication affect you?

-The color and lighting of a room impact my mood: relaxed or uptight
-Decorations: I always feel uncomfortable when there are animal heads on
the wall, but the color of the room can definitely impact my mood bright
             and vibrant makes me energized
-I feel uncomfortable when I am in people's bedrooms
-I feel uncomfortable in small areas
