Delaney's COM 212: Interpersonal Communication Website

Unit 2

1) Relationship & primary channels of communication

  • Husband: Face-to-face & text
*Strongest feeling of closeness when we talk face-to-face.
*During dinner and before going to bed are times for us to bond
*When we are at work we stay connected via text
*Marc hates talking on the phone
*Helps us build a solid foundation for communication, and in turn a
                    marital foundation

  • Friend: Text & Facebook
*I stay up with my friends primarily through Facebook, great way to
                     stay in the know
*More urgent, generally a text conversation will take place.
*Gives the ability to communicate in a flexible, convenient way

  • Family Member: Facebook & Face-to-face
*My husband and I live very close to my family, so primarily
                     face-to-face communication
*The relationships with my family would deteriorate if we were not
                     living close
*His family is very far away more tech savvy than mine
*Facebook is utilized as our primary source of communication
*These channels of communication fit each family's needs and
                     capabilities for relational growth

  • Co-Worker: Face-to-face & email
*There are three women that work in my office, very close knit
                     quarters.
*Much of our conversation throughout the day is just yelling to each
other from one office to the next.
*We email important things to each other when one is out of the
office or if someone has the day off.
*These are easy ways to maintain both our personal & professional
                     relationships

  • People I interact with at work (customer or representative): Phone & email
*Primary means of communicating at work is on the phone or
                      through email.
*This is a great way to quickly send and receive information.
*Service is the goal at work, personalization is not always, making
                      these channels very effective
